Have you heard of a trade show?

Maybe you have heard these other words for trade show: trade fair, exhibition or expo, and show, like Tokyo Motor Show.

A trade show is an event to see the newest products. There are automobile trade shows that show shiny new cars. There are robot trade shows that show the latest robots.

A trade show is an event in a big space. The event has a theme, for example cars, beauty and health products, or eyewear (glasses). Many companies show their newest products. Company staff meet people who are interested in their products and talk about their products or services. A trade show is interesting and exciting!

Trade shows have two benefits for companies. First, a company can promote its products. They can show the product or service, how to use it and the new features. Second, companies can meet potential customers and talk to them face-to-face. Also, key people involved with design or sales can negotiate directly with customers. They can also meet people from other companies with similar products and check new product trends.

University of Nagano Student Trade Show

At the University of Nagano, 2nd year Global Management students participate in a student trade show. At the Student Trade Show event there are many English presentations about ideas to make our lives better.

Preparation begins with students thinking of a project or service that will improve people’s lives. Then they write a proposal to explain their idea and give a short speech about their idea. Each English class chooses the best ideas from their classmates.

A group of 3-4 students has one project to present at the Student Trade Show. The group makes a poster and a presentation to explain their project in English. Students learn how to answer questions about their project.

At the Student Trade Show students promote their project in front of their poster. Many teams are presenting at the same time. It is interesting and exciting!
