Student exchange program (Inbound)
The University of Nagano welcomes international exchange students from our partner universities. Students must be nominated by their home universities to participate in our exchange programme. We accept students from each partner university for a maximum of 4 semesters (=8 quarters at the University of Nagano) per academic year (April to March) in total.
The Student Exchange Program offers the opportunity to study at the University of Nagano for 4 months (2 quarters) or 1 year (4 quarters). Accepted exchange students are enrolled as non-degree students and take Japanese language classes for international students as well as regular classes with the University of Nagano students. For accommodation, exchange students live in the Zozan Dormitory in the Gocho Campus, where they are expected to experience Japanese language and culture through dormitory life, and to interact with local residents in the neighborhood.

"I feel really happy that I studied at the University of Nagano. Although it was only for a short time, all the teachers and friends were very kind to me and I have fond memories of them. Most importantly, they changed my sense of values. Now I am trying my best to get into a graduate school in Japan."

"My exchange period at The University of Nagano was filled with wonderful experiences. The language and literature classes were both highly engaging and inspiring, and I was able to follow them with great enthusiasm. At first, I was worried about not being able to express myself due to my limited confidence in my Japanese skills, but thanks to the continuous support of the Global Center, the buddies, and my roommates, I gained much more confidence in myself. I truly recommend this experience to everyone. "

"Leaving home and coming to an unfamiliar place can be a little scary, but since I have come all the way here, I don’t want to give up the opportunity to learn new things. Over this past year, I made many friends through the club activities, my life became fulfilling, and my Japanese improved. I am grateful to the University of Nagano. I will never forget everyone; it would not be an exaggeration to say I will remember them for my entire life."
