Partnership with local community

Comprehensive partnership agreements

The University of Nagano was opened in April 2018. In the first year, comprehensive partnership agreements were signed with four cities (Nagano, Iiyama, Chikuma, and Nakano), and a three-party partnership agreement on social innovation was signed with Nagano Prefecture and Nihon Unisys, Ltd. The following year, three new comprehensive partnership agreements were signed.

University of Nagano and Suzaka City (June 4, 2019)

Projects involving students were carried out, such as the “Storehouse Townscape Campus Project” in which students from the University of Nagano participated, searching throughout Suzaka City to find ideas that would lead to regional revitalization.
In the future, we will look into development of administrative personnel with entrepreneurial functions (public entrepreneurs).

University of Nagano, KDDI Corporation, and Nagano IT Collaboration Platform (NICOLLAP) (November 8, 2019)

The three parties will come together to work on joint research on local utilization of 5G and other cutting-edge technologies, solving local challenges via cooperation with local companies and startups, and promotion of human resources development, including human resources for innovation and entrepreneurs, and education at universities and other educational institutions.

University of Nagano and National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Nagano College (January 31, 2020)

This is the University of Nagano’s first comprehensive partnership agreement with an institution of higher education.
The parties will partner in educational research activities and cooperate in student/faculty training and exchange, starting businesses, and employment, among other things. Only four kilometers separates the two educational institutions, so various types of student exchange are expected to occur, including in club activities.
Signing comprehensive partnership agreements with parties that have strengths in the fields of industry, academia, and government will allow us to engage in various activities in a comprehensive and continuous manner.
We expect that cooperating with other parties while taking advantage of our respective strengths will lead to the creation of never-before-seen value and solutions to local challenges.

Collaborative initiatives with local communities

Nakano City

In Nakano City, CSI was involved in management of the “Exciting Shinshu Nakano 100-person Meeting” (held twice).
The first time, the theme was “My Nakano” or “Unexpected Nakano,” making use of the world cafe method. Students from Nakanonishi High School and the University of Nagano participated, so the topics of conversation were diverse, including how to use time effectively before and after the commute, the necessity of gathering places, and the possibility of making Nakano town known for music.
The second time, not only did the participants delve deeper into the ideas from the first meeting but new participants actively took part and shared their ideas. As a result of the deeper exchange of ideas, some of the participants even talked to each other about gathering on their own.

Iiyama City

CSI advisory members Yukinori Sakurai, Miho Kazama, and Takeshi Tajima of RELEASE; are involved in the Iiyama Good Business (Iiyama GB) project, which supports local ecosystem development. A meeting for the business operators participating in Iiyama GB to present their ideas for businesses “needed and welcomed by the region” was held on October 1. It provided the opportunity for not just the presenting business operators but those who came to listen as well to form a broad network. Iiyama GB continues to manage a website introducing the active players in Iiyama, so be sure to visit the Iiyama Good Business website. A seminar with entrepreneurs as guest speakers and field work for Iiyama high school students were also held on the topic of “Measures to Address Vacancies” in collaboration with the Hokushin Regional Promotion Bureau.
